You finally have the keys to that home you dreamed of – maybe in a historic building in Milan, or in a residential neighborhood by Lake Como you chose with care.. You’re standing in that magical, suspended moment between the excitement of a new beginning and the vertigo of too many decisions to make.
A renovation is never just “getting work done.” It’s an act of faith in the future – a way of giving physical shape to how you want to live.
But where do you actually start? People often make the mistake of treating interior design as the final phase – a kind of “decoration” applied once the walls are already standing. At Architempore, job site after job site, we’ve learned that this is the fastest way to waste your budget and end up with a mediocre result.
Interior design isn’t an afterthought: why you should start with the architectural concept
A true interior design project has to be born alongside the architecture, especially in Italy, where there is a strong cultural appreciation for the built environment. These aren’t two parallel tracks—they’re the same road. You’ve probably walked into beautiful homes that still felt cold, or worse, uncomfortable. Maybe the sofa is stunning, but the outlet is on the wrong side, or the kitchen lighting casts annoying shadows right over the countertop. These are symptoms of design done in silos. When you approach interior design, you should demand a holistic vision. Working with professionals means having someone who can read a property’s untapped potential—someone who thinks beyond square footage and considers the quality of light, the flow of movement, how sound travels between rooms, and how every inch can be optimized to meet the client’s actual needs.
The Architempore Method: 4 steps to stress-free interior design
At Architempore, we call it designing “from idea to job site”: while we’re laying out the new wall configuration, we already know where you’ll rest your eyes as you drink your morning coffee, or where your kids will study in total peace. This is integrated design—a tailored process where every technical decision serves your everyday wellbeing. It’s not an aesthetic luxury; it’s an essential functional need.
To take the anxiety out of a renovation, we’ve built a clear, reassuring protocol. It’s not a rigid framework—it’s a compass that lets us move confidently through the countless variables of a construction site.
1. Preliminary phase: listening before drawing
Everything starts with you. At this stage, we don’t need pencils yet – we need ears. We meet for a site visit, of course, but more importantly, for an in-depth conversation. What are your habits? Do you need a space to work from home? Do you need space for an art collection or sports equipment? We carry out a highly precise survey, because an error of just a few centimeters on a floor plan can cause real disasters once furnishing begins. During this preliminary phase, we study the structural constraints and the space’s hidden potential. This is where we lay the solid foundation your dream will be built on.
2. Concept Phase: turning your wishes into layouts and mood boards
This is the phase where we translate your words into concrete visions. We present you with several layout options – there’s never just one solution for a space – along with our mood boards. Mood boards aren’t simple collages. They’re your sensory map: we bring together materials, flooring samples, fabrics, and color palettes. This is where the unique style of your interior design project starts to take shape. It’s an exciting moment, because you see your home gain a soul before a single brick has come down.
3. Final design phase: the technical precision that prevents surprises
Once the concept is chosen, we get into the details. We develop the executive design: systems, home automation, thermal insulation, lighting design. During this phase, we also handle all the permitting and paperwork – a burden we take entirely off your shoulders. For you, this means one essential thing: certainty. This is when we finalize costs and delivery timelines. We don’t want you facing surprises halfway through the work; you’ll always have full control over your investment.
4. Construction phase: the turnkey renovation
From paper to reality. Architempore never leaves you to deal with contractors on your own. We coordinate every phase of the job site, oversee construction management, and make sure every detail of the interior design is respected. That’s our turnkey approach: we’re your single point of contact, we solve problems before they ever reach you, and we hand over a home that’s ready to live in, finished down to the smallest detail.

Beyond the “Pretty Picture”: how to design a modern home that speaks to you
You’ve probably noticed we’re surrounded by images of perfect homes on social media these days. Pinterest and Instagram are fantastic sources of inspiration, but they hide a trap: copy-and-paste design. The risk is ending up living in a modern home that looks like a showroom—cold, and above all, not suited to what you actually need.
The real challenge of an outstanding interior design project is deep personalization.
At Architempore, we always start with one question: how can this space add value to your life? Maybe you want an open kitchen to welcome friends, but you also need surfaces that can handle heavy daily use. Or maybe you dream of a bedroom that’s a sanctuary of silence, where technology fades into the background to make room for rest.
In cases like these, the answer isn’t in a mass-market catalog – it’s in custom design. Designing a piece of furniture that fits perfectly into a niche, or a headboard that hides the home automation wiring, means solving an aesthetic and a functional problem at the same time. del letto che nasconde la domotica significa risolvere un problema estetico e funzionale allo stesso tempo.
Interior design projects brought to life
Nothing explains our work better than the projects we’ve already completed. Each one grew out of a specific challenge and a close dialogue with people who, like you, were looking for something one-of-a-kind.
Casa Helvetia: a retreat for gathering in Abano Terme
Casa Helvetia is a perfect example of how interior design can turn a second home into a haven for relaxation and hospitality. The clients, an Italian couple living in Switzerland, wanted a 100mq (1,076-square-foot) apartment ready to welcome friends and family during their stays in Italy.
The challenge here was creating a fluid, social space. At Architempore, we started at the concept stage by tearing down the walls between the kitchen and living room to create a bright, expansive open-plan space. The heart of the project is the peninsula kitchen, positioned strategically next to a wine cellar – perfect for an aperitivo while cooking. We balanced cool, minimal tones (grays, whites, and indigo blue) with the warmth of oak parquet flooring and the “Sahara” fabric on the Midj seating.
The lighting was planned down to the millimeter: the Aplomb pendant light by Foscarini defines the dining area. In contrast, in the sleeping quarters the lighting is technical and minimal, creating a relaxing atmosphere – especially in the primary suite with its en-suite bathroom.
Casa Manuel: Japanese order meets material warmth
Manuel, a young executive passionate about sports and travel, was looking for peace and absolute order. For him, we worked with a neutral color palette and “honest” materials, favoring clean lines and warm wood surfaces.
In this interior design project, light played a starring role. We designed a lighting plan that made the most of the natural brightness on the top floor, alternating square-edged forms for the built-in furnishings with softer lines for the spaces meant for relaxation.

Designing with style: how smart design choices give a space character
If you really want to know how to design a modern home that won’t feel dated after two seasons, focus on the elements with real, lasting weight—what we call “the pillars of living well.
1. Light as a Building Material
A home’s lighting points need to be designed alongside the walls, never after, accounting for different “scenes”:
- functional light for when you’re working or cooking,
- raking light to bring out a texture,
- soft light for the evening.
Using designer lighting fixtures – ike the pieces by Panzeri in Casa² – means introducing sculptural elements that furnish the space even when they’re switched off.
2. Custom Furniture: The Secret to Optimizing Interiors
Custom furniture lets you make use of otherwise wasted corners and create a visual continuity that off-the-shelf furniture can’t offer. Think of a bookshelf that doubles as a room divider, or a kitchen that disappears into the living space. In Casa², for example, we created a full-wall upholstered headboard that integrates nightstands and electrical outlets: maximum visual cleanliness for superior comfort.
3. Texture and Materials: the sensory experience of a space
A modern home should be a pleasure to live in with all five senses – the warmth of natural wood, the silkiness of high-end wallpaper, the elegant coolness of brushed metal. Our choice of materials in mood boards isn’t guided by sight alone, but by touch. It’s this mix of textures that gives a room depth and makes it feel like “home,” even when the style is extremely minimal.
